Use of Captive Insurance Companies Public Meeting

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) announces a virtual, open meeting regarding the use of captive insurance companies by entities in the State on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Maryland Senate Bill 890 (2026), effective July 1, 2026, requires the MIA to conduct a comprehensive study on how entities use, regulate, and are taxed regarding captive insurance companies. The MIA must report its findings to the Governor and key legislative committees by January 1, 2027. In furtherance of that charge, the MIA will be holding a virtual, open meeting to gather feedback from industry stakeholders, consumers, and others on the use of captive insurance companies by entities in the State.

An agenda, including a list of questions for discussion, will be released prior to the meeting. Feedback will be accepted in advance of, during, and following the meeting.
