The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) announces the first two virtual, open meetings of the 2026 Private Passenger Automobile Insurance Affordability Study Workgroup.
The 2026 Private Passenger Automobile Insurance Affordability Workgroup was established under Senate Bill 865 (2026) to extend, alter, and build upon the foundational work completed by its 2025 predecessor Workgroup (established by House Bill 1098 (2025)). A detailed accounting of the 2025 Workgroup’s work and findings can be found in its final report.
The 2026 Workgroup will continue the efforts of the 2025 Workgroup, but will not be revisiting every topic previously explored. Instead, the focus will be on providing clear, data-driven recommendations aimed at reducing premiums. Specifically, the group will concentrate on areas such as territorial rating, addressing disparate impacts, and exploring alternative rating structures. A report outlining the workgroup's findings and recommendations is due by January 1, 2027.
In furtherance of the workgroup's study and the development of the required report, the workgroup will hold a series of virtual public meetings. Details for the first two of which, found below:
