1-800-492-6116

BALTIMORE – Maryland Insurance Commissioner Marie Grant has directed health insurers to suspend time restrictions on prescription medication refills and the replacement of durable medical equipment or supplies, eyeglasses, and dentures for residents in Garrett County and Allegany County, in response to Governor Wes Moore’s State of Emergency declaration for the counties in the wake of severe flooding.

Commissioner Grant has also directed all insurers active in Maryland to suspend any cancellations for personal automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, commercial insurance, life and health insurance, and other personal lines of insurance in the counties affected by the flooding.

The Maryland Insurance Commissioner has the power, under a declared State of Emergency, to activate certain requirements to ensure that residents maintain coverage through a disaster. Governor Moore declared a State of Emergency on May 15, 2025, in Garrett County and Allegany County.

The Maryland Insurance Administration urges any Maryland resident affected by the severe weather to contact us with any insurance-related issues or questions. Call us at 1-800-492-6116 (toll free) or 1-800-735-2258 (TTY).

Insurers were notified of the emergency actions in two industry bulletins:

25-8: Cancellations of Insurance Policies
