Marie Grant assumes leadership of Maryland Insurance Administration
BALTIMORE –
The Maryland Insurance Administration welcomes new Acting Commissioner Marie Grant, who joined the Administration on October 1.
Appointed
by Governor Wes Moore, Grant will assume the permanent Commissioner role in 2025 pending confirmation by the Senate Executive Nominations Committee during the upcoming legislative session.
Grant comes to the Insurance Administration from the Maryland Department of Health, where she served as assistant secretary for health policy.
An attorney and state and federal policy expert, Grant has nearly 20 years of experience in strategy and regulation in both the public and private sector, focusing on insurance and health care payment. Her previous roles include director of the Office of Governmental Affairs at the Maryland Department of Health and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Vice President of Public Policy.
Grant began her career at the Maryland Department of Legislative Services as non-partisan committee counsel to the House Health and Government Operations Committee and the Senate Finance Committee, where she advised on health, life, and malpractice insurance legislation, as well as consumer protection.
“I am excited to work with the deeply knowledgeable, professional team here at the Maryland Insurance Administration,” Grant said. “I view this agency, first and foremost, as a consumer protection agency. We are here to serve Marylanders and to make sure they are treated fairly. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Grant received a B.A. in public health from the Johns Hopkins University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
