Lynn Beckner named Associate Commissioner for Financial Regulation

BALTIMORE –  Maryland Insurance Commissioner Kathleen A. Birrane has named Lynn Beckner as Associate Commissioner, Financial Regulation for the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA).

Beckner will lead the MIA’s Division of Financial Regulation, which is responsible for the financial regulation of domestic and foreign insurance companies, including financial analyses and examinations of licensed companies and applicants for company licensing.

An MIA employee since 2001, Beckner has served in progressively responsible roles over the last two decades. For the last 12 years, she was Chief Financial Analyst, managing a staff of professionals responsible for monitoring domestic insurers’ statutory compliance and financial solvency. Beckner is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Financial Examiner.

“Lynn is immensely qualified for this position,” said Commissioner Birrane. “She has extensive experience and knowledge of Maryland’s insurance laws and regulations related to financial reporting. I am excited that she will lead our excellent Financial Regulation Division.”

As Chief Financial Analyst, Beckner:
  • Managed the financial analysis process to ensure that procedures followed risk-focused surveillance concepts.
  • Successfully lead a team of analysts through two National Association of Insurance Commissioners Accreditation reviews.
  • Created an analysis workflow management system to help analysts and supervisors ensure all work is completed on time.
  • Developed an automated early warning tool to quickly identify solvency issues within days of financial statements being filed.
Prior to joining the MIA, Beckner held corporate accounting or audit-related positions at public accounting firms in Texas, Missouri and Maryland.

“I have a great deal of respect and admiration for my colleagues at the MIA,” Beckner said. “I look forward to continuing to serve the people of Maryland in my new position.”
