Advisory: Maryland Adopts PLMA Line of Authority Names

BALTIMORE - Effective October 21, 2021, the Maryland Insurance Administration (“Administration”) will update the current line of authority names to adopt the Producer Licensing Model Act (PLMA) line of authority names.

Adoption of the PLMA helps insurance regulators establish uniformity for both resident and nonresident licensing. One of the PLMA components identifies the name of lines of authority.

This change to the PLMA names will improve efficiency associated with issuing and renewing insurance licenses. These name changes do not affect the authority, scope or subject area of the line of insurance.

Maryland licensees holding the affected lines of authority will see the following name changes:

Current Line of Authority NameEffective October 21, 2021

HealthAccident and Health or Sickness
Variable Life and Variable Annuity Products Variable Life and Variable Annuities
