BALTIMORE – Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer, Jr. has named Mr. Zachary A. Peters as Chief of Staff for the Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA), effective July 3.

“We are excited to have Zach return to the Insurance Administration as a member of our Senior Leadership Team,” said Commissioner Redmer. “As we work to provide fair treatment for consumers and welcome new insurance companies to Maryland, Zach will be leading a critical operational area for our team.” As Chief of Staff, Peters will be involved in external relations, policy development, industry affairs, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), and special projects.

Prior to his appointment as Chief of Staff, Peters served as the principal government relations staff member for the Maryland Environmental Service (MES) where he advised senior leadership on numerous issues. Peters is a graduate of Loyola University Maryland, and a former appointed economic development commissioner for the Town of Mount Airy, MD. In 2016, he was named one of Maryland’s “Top 20 in Their Twenties” by The Daily Record for his work at the MIA and in economic development. He is a lifetime member of the Mount Airy Historical Society, and holds a seat on the Town’s Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
