​Dealing with the loss to your home, contents or other property after a major storm, hurricane, fire, or theft can be overwhelming. While many consumers are able to resolve their property claims by dealing with their insurer and the insurer’s adjuster on their own, sometimes consumers or businesses will decide they would prefer that someone else handle the insurance claim on their behalf.

What you need to be aware of when it comes to contractors or indivuduals that offer to help you with your insurance claim:

After a disaster (whether it impacts you or your community) many people may reach out to help you.  This could include your neighbors, county or city officials, the Red Cross, and community groups.  You might also be approached by contractors or individuals that offer to help you with your insurance claim.  It is important that you understand who these individuals are and the role they play in your insurance claim.  One of the most important things to remember is to ask for proper identification so that you can be certain you know the identity of the individual and who they work for. ​Read more.
