Mid-Year Request to Increase Small Group Rates for UnitedHealthcare Products under the Affordable Care Act (ACA)

The Maryland Insurance Administration has received four requests from UnitedHealthcare for mid-year rate changes in the small group market, effective October 1, 2026.  Combined, this represents an average 17.6% increase and would impact 26,199 members.

The currently approved average increase for October 1 is 9.4%. This request represents an additional 7.5% above this current, pre-filed quarterly increase. The factor driving a higher rate request is an increase to the projected pricing trend. UnitedHealthcare is requesting rate changes on products sold by the following four legal entities::


UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company

Members:  12,379

Requested Average Increase:  16.5%


MAMSI Life and Health Insurance Company

Members:  8,615

Requested Average Increase:  19.3 %


Optimum Choice Inc.

Members:  3,968

Requested Average Increase:  17.5%


UnitedHealthcare of the Mid-Atlantic Inc.

Members:  1 ,237

Requested Average Increase:  17.1%
