Consumer Alert: Floodsmart.gov (not .com)

Seeking Flood Insurance Information? Read This First.

Many Maryland residents are looking into flood insurance due to recent storms or because updated flood maps show their property is at higher risk. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) offers flood insurance, and their website, floodsmart.gov, has helpful information. The Maryland Insurance Administration often directs people to this website. But be careful: floodsmart.com is run by a private insurance broker, not the NFIP.

The Maryland Insurance Administration noticed a website that looks like the NFIP’s. It uses .com instead of .gov. We want to make sure people use the correct site, floodsmart.gov, not floodsmart.com, for NFIP information. If you need private flood insurance, either instead of or in addition to NFIP, visit our website for more information.
