If a military servicemember or the spouses of a servicemember relocates to Maryland because of military orders, the Maryland Insurance Administration will recognize as valid in Maryland any active insurance professional's license that the individual holds in another jurisdiction. This recognition will apply only to activities that are similar in scope and practice to those permitted under their current license, and only for the period of time that the servicemember or spouse is in Maryland due to military orders.
Qualification and Process:
- The individual holds a valid resident insurance license in another state or jurisdiction;
- The individual is in good standing in the other state or jurisdiction;
- The individual presents military orders for military service demonstrating the individual or the individual's spouse has relocated to Maryland for military service;
- The individual complies with Maryland's background check and is not found to be in violation of § 10-126 of the Insurance Article;
- The individual must submit to the Maryland Insurance Administration a completed paper application to have his or her non-Maryland license recognized as valid by the Maryland Insurance Administration; and
- The individual must also submit the following documents, along with the completed application:
- Proof of active military orders for military service demonstrating the individual or the individual's spouse is on military duty in Maryland;
- A notarized affidavit affirming, under the penalty of law, that:
(A) the applicant is the person described and identified in the application;
(B) all statements made in the application are true and correct and complete;
(C) the applicant has read and understands the requirements to receive a license, and the scope of practice, of Maryland;
(D) the applicant certifies that the applicant meets and shall comply with requirements described in subparagraph (C);
(E) the applicant is in good standing in all States in which the applicant holds or has held a license
- If the applicant is the spouse of a servicemember, a copy of the marriage certificate,
- Any supporting documents that the Administration may further require.
Note that a servicemember or servicemember's spouse may also apply for a nonresident license through the regular electronic process, but the fee for a nonresident license will be required.
