Commissioner Redmer to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Health Insurance Premium Rates

Public Hearing to be held Wednesday, July 6th in Baltimore

BALTIMORE (May 24, 2016) — Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer, Jr. will hold a public hearing on insurance companies’ proposed premium rates for 2017 health insurance plans. This quasi-legislative hearing, scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Maryland Insurance Administration’s office in Baltimore, will focus on plans sold directly to individuals and to small employers.
 
“It’s imperative that we receive feedback from all stakeholders on the premium rates for health insurance as it directly impacts everyone’s budget,” said Commissioner Redmer. “We are looking forward to hearing from interested parties on this important financial issue.”
 
Six insurance companies filed to sell in the individual market for next year, and 11 filed for the small group market. A summary of their requests can be found at www.insurance.maryland.gov. More comprehensive information from the carriers can be found at: www.healthrates.mdinsurance.state.md.us. This site also allows the public to submit comments through Wednesday, June 29th.
 
Any interested party is invited to attend the public hearing. Time limits may be imposed for oral testimony, depending on the number of people who attend. The Maryland Insurance Administration is located at 200 St. Paul Place, Baltimore, Md., 21202. The public hearing will be held in the Chesapeake Room on the 22nd floor.
