Filing Requirements for Accepted Fronting Reinsurers

In accordance with Sections 5-905 and 13-116 of the Insurance Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, all non-admitted insurance companies desiring to be registered in Maryland as Fronting Reinsurers are required to annually file with the Maryland Insurance Administration the following:

  • Application.
  • Certified copy of the most recent annual statement.
  • Current Certificate of Compliance from domiciliary jurisdiction.
  • Certificate of Deposit issued by domiciliary jurisdiction, as required under Section 13-116(b)(v) of the Insurance Article.
  • Latest Report of Examination made of the applicant by the Insurance Regulatory Agency of the applicant's state of domicile.
  • Current Certificate of Valuation issued by its domiciliary jurisdiction if a life insurer.
  • All reinsurers filing for Fronting Reinsurer status must submit all credit life and credit health reinsurance agreements on business originating in Maryland that have not been previously approved.
  • Filing fee of $1,000 (non-refundable) and $1,000 Fraud Fee Assessment made payable to the Maryland Insurance Administration.

Upon receipt of the documents listed above and the filing fee, a determination will be made and the company notified as to whether it will be place on Maryland's list of Fronting Reinsurers.

Filings and fees must be received on or before June 30.
