Switzer Named Chief Actuary for Maryland Insurance Administration
BALTIMORE
– Maryland Insurance Commissioner Al Redmer, Jr. announced today the appointment of Todd Switzer as Chief Actuary for the independent state agency where he will have management responsibility for the actuarial team that manages the processing and evaluation of various health insurance rate filings in the individual and small group market segments. The team also completes life company valuations, participates in financial examinations and reviews actuarial opinions and memorandums.
“We are excited to have Todd on the senior leadership team at the Maryland Insurance Administration in this important role,” said Commissioner Redmer. “He brings a wealth of insurance knowledge and actuarial experience to the role of Chief Actuary where he will manage our rate review process, a critical regulatory function that we perform as we work to protect Maryland consumers.”
Prior to joining the Insurance Administration, Switzer supported the Group Hospitalization and Medical Services, Inc. as Senior Director of Actuarial Pricing where he led the rate development process for the individual and small group markets. He brings more than 19 years’ experience in the insurance industry in actuarial roles with both CareFirst and Mass Mutual.
Switzer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Boston University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries as well as a graduate of Leadership Montgomery County.
