Registration Requirements for Medical Discount Plans

Companies seeking to offer Discount Medical Plans and/or Discount Drug Plans (the "Plans") shall register with the Maryland Insurance Administration as required under Subtitle 14-603 of the Insurance Article, Annotated Code of Maryland before a discount medical or drug plan established by the entity is sold, marketed or solicited in the State.  The purpose of this material is to summarize and outline briefly the administrative procedures for processing registration applications for the Plans.

In order to register, the Plans are required to submit the following:

Application estimated verification time: two to five business days.
Application estimated application determination time: 14 to 30 days.
Estimated length of time to complete application: varies based on size and complexity.

All registrations expire on the second June 30 following the registration unless it is renewed.
Once registered, the Plans are required to apply bi-annually to renew their eligibility.  The Plans can apply online to renew their registration between May 1 and June 30 of the year of expiration.

The renewal process can be completed online without attaching any other paperwork.  You will be required to pay the renewal fee totaling $150 using a Visa, Mastercard, or eCheck.  There is no extra charge for renewing online.  If you renew by credit card, the charge on your statement will be shown as "Maryland Insurance Administration".
