BALTIMORE –Governor Larry Hogan has appointed Joy Hatchette to the Maryland Commission on Aging. She currently serves as the Associate Commissioner for Consumer Education and Advocacy for the Maryland Insurance Administration.
As a member of the Commission on Aging, Ms. Hatchette will be one of thirteen members appointed by the Governor who are charged with reviewing programs and activities for older adults and making program recommendations to Maryland Secretary of Aging Rona Kramer. Ms. Hatchette was sworn in to this appointed position on July 28, 2016.
“Joy’s in-depth knowledge of insurance and her experience in educating consumers make her a key addition to the Commission as it examines issues related to Maryland seniors,” said Commissioner Redmer. “Joy will be able to provide her expertise to the Commission on Aging as it works to develop practical solutions and programs for this important demographic in our state.”
Ms. Hatchette is responsible for overseeing outreach to consumers so they can better understand their rights and obligations under their insurance policies. She served as Associate Commissioner for Consumer Complaints at the MIA from September 1997 until July 2004. From 2003 until 2007 she served as an Assistant Attorney General for the MIA. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School and is a member of the bar associations in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
